Traveling to Greece was one of my most memorable vacations. The beauty, food, and night life will have you wanting to visit every year.
Here’s a quick guide to traveling Greece for the first time and hitting the main islands in one week.
Stop 1: Mykonos
Athens has a connector flight to Mykonos. I would recommend booking your main flight from the U.S. to Athens, then purchasing a one way ticket to Mykonos once you land in Athens. One way tickets are so cheap! You can get them for less than $50 a person.
Length of Stay
- 2 Nights
Hotel
Fabulous hotel. Amazing views and they have a shuttle that takes you to Mykonos Town center. The complimentary breakfast here is one of the best I have ever had. We stayed in the Prestige Double Guestroom with Sea View. It was splendid.
Amazing drinks and food by this wonderful pool were a highlight of our trip.
Activities
We enjoyed the pool and beach during our stay. The accommodations were so great, that we didn’t want to leave.
The Villa provides a free shuttle service, allowing you to go into town for shopping and dinner. I would recommend checking out the amazing dress stores in Mykonos.
Another perk of staying at Myconian Villa is they can help coordinate services and activities for you. Highly recommend one of their villas!
Stop 2: Santorini
You can’t go to Greece without stopping in Santorini. The island is bigger than you think, with many places to stay. We stayed in Oia during our Santorini stop. Each side of the island is beautiful, but after much research, most folks said Oia had the most beautiful sunsets in the world. They didn’t lie!
Traveling Between Islands
The easiest way for us was traveling by Hydrofoil. This gave us time to rest and relax and the hydrofoils are super nice. The trip time between Mykonos and Santorini is around 3 hours.
Length of Stay
- 3 Nights
Hotel
When you travel to Santorini, you have to enjoy the best caldera views. This boutique hotel was awesome! We stayed in a cave…you read that right…a cave. It was awesome!
We stayed in the Folegandros Suite. It had a private infinity pool with an amazing view of the Mediterranean Sea.
We still dream of these views. It is something out of a postcard.
Activities
- If you read my other Europe posts, then you know I love a bike tour. This allows you to see the full island with the best views.
- We loved this boat tour. We opted for the sunset cruise, and it was great. We started on the boat around 2pm, giving us lots of time enjoying the sun. One of our favorite sunsets to date. Plus unlimited alcohol and food.
Shopping
- Santorini is known for shopping. You can spend hours wondering around each section of the island walking the streets going in and out of shops.
Stop 3: Athens
Traveling Between Islands
We opted for another Hydrofoil. Quick and the most cost-efficient.
Length of Stay
- 3 nights
Hotel
This was a budget-friendly and clean hotel. We weren’t in our room for most of our stay in Athens, so we opted for a more cost efficient hotel stay. Very clean and friendly staff at Ava Hotel.
We stayed in the Executive Suite, which was spacious and had a great view of the Acropolis.
Activities
Two Day Athens City Tour with Delphi Day Trip
- This tour was great for seeing all of Athens in two days. Allowed us to visit the Acropolis and Parthenon, along with other city highlights. It also came with a day trip to Delphi if you are interested in history and historical sites. Great option to cover it all!
- This was definitely a highlight. Great tour from a local with amazing food choices. We tasted the best olive oil ever on this tour.
- Because you know how we do by now 🙂
Enjoy your trip to Greece!
