Spring flowers are blooming in Georgia, but earlier in March we rounded out Winter with our last snowy trip of the season to Switzerland.
Just like other European countries, Switzerland has so much charm. The combination of snowy weather, the scenery of the Alps, and small but nice things like the best cheeses, chocolates, and watches together are what makes Switzerland a great place to visit.

Places to Visit
Lucerne
We started our trip in Lucerne, which was a quick 45 minute train ride from the Zurich airport. Lucerne has so much charm. Between the Lake Lucerne, historical bridges, and the cobblestone streets…it quickly became one of our favorite European cities. We stayed at AMERON Luzern Hotel Flora, and it was in a great location. A quick five minute walk to the train station and a great budget friendly hotel option.
From Lucerne, you can easily get to any area of Switzerland. The train system is world-class in Switzerland and very easy to navigate. We were able to do a day tip to Zurich and Mt. Titlus from Lucerne and highly recommend this area for your main base if you don’t like moving around hotels.

Zurich
We flew into Zurich and did a day trip from Lucerne. For this trip, we wanted to spend our time in more of a quant city compared to a large and bustling vibe. When we went to Zurich for the day, we realized we made the right choice. Zurich was great for the day, but we really enjoyed the charm of Lucerne for our home base.
While in Zurich, you can easily visit the Lindt Chocolate Museum and enjoy amazing Michelin Star restaurants.

Bernese Oberland
The Bernese Oberland is an extraordinary place. The alpine views, the thrilling rides on the cable cars, the scenic strolls through the small towns, the hiking trails…it would be very easy to spend a full week here and never run out of things to do.
We spent our time staying in Adelboden at the Cambrian. This was our splurge hotel for the trip, and it was worth every penny. Switzerland is known for those postcard views of wooden houses on a lush green hill overlooking the Alps. Adelboden was picture perfect. The Cambrian offered amazing views with a wonderful spa overlooking the Alps, which created a great place to retreat in the evening after skiing.

While in the Bernese Oberland, you can take day trips to Grindelwald, Jungfrau, and Interlaken. If you are looking for those post card views of Switzerland, then Grindelwald and Adelboden will provide them. Interlaken is more of a city and the mountain scenery was the best.

Places to Eat
As you know, we love great food. Our favorite thing to do on our trip is eat at Michelin Star restaurants. Switzerland has some great ones! I listed our favorites below in ranking order.
- Alpenblick Adelboden – wonderful views in Adelboden
- Eden Kitchen and Bar – located in Zurich, this is a great place for drinks if you are staying in the area
- Old Swiss House – this is a historic location providing authentic German cuisine. Try the schnitzel that they cook at the table.
- Dinner at Restaurant Balances – this was a great place for dinner in Lucerne.

Things to Do
You won’t be bored in Switzerland. There is so much to do, even in the winter. Here are a few highlights from our trip, and we are itching to visit Switzerland again in the warmer months to enjoy the many natural lakes in the country.

- Zurich Historical Walking Tour

Switzerland was a dream! We felt like we were walking on clouds all week during our winter visit. The astonishing Alps, the tranquility of lakes, charming towns, urban communities, and transcending castles – that is only some of what Switzerland brings to the table. Add in some shopping, wine savoring, luscious chocolates and cheeses, too…and you have all the best qualities that make Switzerland a perfect place to visit any time of the year.
